Resumen Gamochaeta cabrerae, G. simplicicaulis y G. subfalcata se citan por primera vez en Ecuador y se confirma la presencia de G. humilis. Estos nuevos registros se suman a las cuatro especies del género conocidas hasta el momento para el país, i.e., G. americana, G. pensylvanica, G. purpurea y G. sphacelata. Para cada uno de los nuevos registros se aporta una descripción, ilustración y mapa de distribución. Además, se incluye una clave del género en Ecuador.

Abstract Gamochaeta cabrerae, G. simplicicaulis, and G. subfalcata are newly reported for Ecuador, and the presence of G. humilis is confirmed. Four species have been previously recorded: G. americana, G. pensylvanica, G. purpurea, and G. sphacelata. These new records of Gamochaeta are described, illustrated and their distributional maps are presented. A key to the Ecuadorian species of Gamochaeta is provided.

Abstract Pseudognaphalium Kirp. (Asteraceae, Gnaphalieae) consist of about 60 species mainly distributed in South, Central, and North America. As a first contribution toward a comprehensive taxonomic review of Pseudognaphalium, we perform here the first morphometric analysis of North American species, using UPGMA method for the construction of the dendrogram. Based upon these results we present a synopsis including a key to identify species and their associated synonymy. Thirty-seven species are recognized, two taxa are newly synonymized, Pseudognaphalium microcephalum under the name P. canescens and Pseudognaphalium semilanatum under the name P. semiamplexicaule, and two other names are confirmed as synonyms as previously proposed, Pseudognaphalium micradenium as a synonym of P. helleri and Pseudognaphalium crenatum as a synonym of P. viscosum. Lectotypes are newly designated for Gnaphalium beneolens, G. berlandieri (= Pseudognaphalium stramineum), Gnaphalium decurrens (= Pseudognaphalium macounii), G. leucocephalum, G. oxyphyllum, G. oxyphyllum var. semilanatum (= P. semiamplexicaule), G. semiamplexicaule, G. sulphurescens (= P. stramineum), G. thermale, and second-step lectotypifications are proposed for G. helleri and G. wrightii (= P. canescens). In addition, the first illustrations of Pseudognaphalium helleri and P. semiamplexicaule, and a colour figure of P. canescens and P. beneolens emphasizing the results of the morphometric analysis are provided.

Lectotypifications in Amaranthaceae for Flora Argentina. Lectotypes are designated for 36 species and 22 infraspecific taxa of Amaranthaceae for Flora Argentina which belong to the currently accepted genera Alternanthera, Blutaparon, Chamissoa, Froelichia, Hebanthe, and Pfaffia. Of all the lectotypifications, 20 are second step lectotypifications.

Se designan lectotipos para 36 nombres específicos y 22 nombres infraespecíficos correspondientes a la familia Amaranthaceae de la Flora Argentina, los que pertenecen a los géneros actualmente aceptados Alternanthera, Blutaparon, Chamissoa, Froelichia, Hebanthe y Pfaffia. Del total, 20 corresponden a lectotipificaciones de segundo paso.

A new name Gamochaeta ramosa S.E. Freire, N. Bayón & C.M. Baeza for Gnaphalium ramosum Phil. (1864) non Lam. (1779) nec Sch. Bip. (1845), is proposed. The following taxa are newly synonymized: Gamochaeta foliosa with G. spiciformis; G. monticola with G. oligantha; Gnaphalium petraeum with Gamochaeta andina; G. suffruticosa with G. chamissonis; Gnaphalium bellidifolium, Gamochaeta berteroana with G. filaginea; and Gnaphalium agreste with Gamochaeta stachydifolia. Lectotypes are newly designated for Gnaphalium andinum, G. berteroanum, G. suffruticosum, and G. villarroelii.

Se incluye una clave para identificarlas y para cada una de las especies se brinda descripción, ilustración, fenología, distribución geográfica y hábitat, mapa de distribución, material adicional examinado y afinidades taxonómicas. In this contribution the climbing species Senecio angulatus L. f. is reported as cultivated and naturalized for the first time in Argentina. Its illustration, synonymy, description, distribution and phenology, vernacular names, uses, reference materials, and a discussion about its biological type and naturalization, are included. Also, a key to differentiate S. angulatus from similar climbers: Delairea odorata Lem. (= Senecio mikanioides Otto ex Walp.), Senecio macroglossus DC., and S. tamoides DC., is presented. This first record of S. angulatus in Argentina is of interest since it helps to understand its naturalization process, taking into account that it has been indicated as a weed or invasive plant in other countries.

En la presente contribución se cita por primera vez la especie de trepadora Senecio angulatus L. f. como cultivada y naturalizada en la Argentina. Se incluye su ilustración, sinonimia, descripción, distribución y fenología, nombres vernáculos, usos, materiales de referencia, y una discusión sobre su tipo biológico y naturalización. Además, se presenta una clave para diferenciar S. angulatus de otras especies de trepadoras de aspecto similar: Delairea odorata Lem. (= Senecio mikanioides Otto ex Walp.), Senecio macroglossus DC. y S. tamoides DC. Este primer registro de S. angulatus en la Argentina es de interés para la comprensión del proceso de su naturalización, debido a que se ha indicado como maleza o invasora en otros países del mundo.

The genus Pseudognaphalium is one of the largest genera of the tribe Gnaphalieae (Asteraceae) with about 90 species with worldwide distribution. The vast majority of species are found in South, Central and North America, but some species also occur in Asia and Africa. This work includes the revision of 12 species of Pseudognaphalium from Chile, P. aldunateoides, P. cabrerae, P. cheiranthifolium, P. cymatoides, P. gayanum, P. lacteum, P. landbeckii, P. munoziae, P. psilophyllum, P. remyanum, P. tarapacanum, and P. viravira. A key is provided for their identification, as well as morphological description, illustration, geographic distribution and habitat, distribution maps, phenology, additional material examined, distinguishing characters and taxonomic affinities for each taxon. The new combination Pseudognaphalium cabrerae (S.E. Freire) S.E. Freire, N. Bayón, C. Baeza, Giuliano & C. Monti, is proposed. The following taxa are newly synonymized: Gnaphalium diminutivum, Pseudognaphalium perpusillum, with P. aldunateoides; G. canum, G. ulophyllum, P. moelleri with P. cymatoides; P. heterophyllum, P. heterotrichum, G. pseudohelichrysum, P. robustum with P. gayanum; P. glandulosum with P. psilophyllum; G. longifolium, G. subnudum, P. andicola, P. coquimbense, P. illapelinum, P. montevidense, P. pratense, with P. viravira. Pseudognaphalium fastigiatum (Compositae: Gnaphalieae) is the correct name for P.cabrerae. Pseudognaphalium cabrerae (S. E. Freire) Deble was proposed as a new combination in 2006 for the South American Gnaphalium fastigiatum Philippi (1895), non Thunb. (1800), nec Schrank (1824), also called G. philippii Cabrera (1941), non Gand. (1918). However, P. cabrerae is invalid under ICBN rules. Pseudognaphalium fastigiatum is proposed as the correct name for this taxon.

La nueva combinación Pseudognaphalium cabrerae (S.E. Freire) Deble fue propuesta en 2006 para denominar a la especie sudamericana Gnaphalium fastigiatum Philippi (1895), non Thunb. (1800), nec Schrank (1824), también llamada G. philippii Cabrera (1941), non Gand. (1918). Sin embargo, el nombre P. cabrerae es inválido bajo las reglas del CINB, siendo Pseudognaphalium fastigiatum indicado como el nombre correcto para este taxon.

Fifty five species of shrubs and small trees belonging to 24 families which inhabit the Biogeographic Province of the Yungas (Argentina) have been cited with medicinal properties. The aim of this study is to provide leaf micrographic parameters to recognize these taxa as a tool to allow quality control. Fresh material and hydrated herbarium specimens fixed in FAA were surveyed. The main differential traits are: trichome and stomata types; presence of striate cuticle, papillose epidermis and/or presence of hypodermis; vascular bundle types; crystal and secretory structures types. As a result, we offer a dichotomic key to distinguish these 55 species and illustrations to clarify it. An ecological interpretation of leaf structures is also given. Predominantly, meso-hygromorphic traits are found in shrubs, while meso-xeromorphic traits are found in small trees due to the presence of some sclerophyllous and xeromorphic features.

Entre los arbustos y pequeños árboles que forman parte de la Selva de la Provincia Biogeográfica de las Yungas (Argentina), 55 especies pertenecientes a 24 familias son citadas como medicinales. El objetivo de este trabajo es proveer parámetros micrográficos foliares que permitan determinar estos taxones y faciliten efectuar el control de calidad. Para el estudio se empleó material fresco y ejemplares de herbario recuperados y fijados en FAA. Algunos de los principales caracteres de identificación son: los tipos de tricomas y de estomas; la presencia de estrías cuticulares; epidermis papilosa y/o hipodermis; los tipos de haces vasculares, de cristales y de estructuras secretoras. Se incluye una clave dicotómica e ilustraciones para la determinación de las especies y una interpretación ecológica de los caracteres hallados, tales como el predominio de caracteres mesohigromórficos en los arbustos y meso-xeromórficos por la aparición de algunos rasgos esclerófilos y xeromórficos en los pequeños árboles.

The present paper contains the study of the second part of medicinal shrubs and trees from Paranaense province. Forty five species of shrubs and trees belonging to 29 families inhabiting Misiones forest of the Paranaense biogeographic province (Argentina) have been cited with medicinal properties. The work provides illustrations of diagnostic characters and conclusions of the main botanical differential traits, such as the presence of crystaliferous epidermis (e.g. Trixis divaricata subsp. divaricata); stomata and trichomes types (e. g. ciclocytic stomata in Pilocarpus pennatifolius and scale peltate trichomes in Tabebuia heptaphylla); midvein transection outlines (e.g. midvein convex and keel-shaped on the adaxial side in Schinus weinmanniifolia); presence and types of crystals (e.g. crystal sand in Cordia ecalyculata, raphides in Psychotria carthagenensis). This paper also gives an ecological interpretation of the species studied which shows predominantly a combination of mesomorphic (e.g. hypostomatic leaves, dorsiventral mesophyll) and xeromorphic leaf traits (e.g. thick cuticle, abundant sclerenchyma, multilayered epidermis, mesophyll formed exclusively by palisade parenchyma, multilayered hypodermis, presence of sclereids). Only two species (Ilex paraguariensis and Manihot grahamii) have mesomorphic (e.g. hypostomatic leaves, dorsiventral mesophyll) and hygromorphic leaf characters (e.g. epidermis glabrous). Finally, the work provides a key to distinguish 107 medicinal shrubs and trees from the Paranaense biogeographic province (Part 1: Gallery forests and Part 2: Misiones forest) that permit identified species using anatomy leaf characteristics.

El presente trabajo corresponde a la segunda entrega del estudio de arbustos y árboles medicinales de la provincia biogeografica Paranaense. En esta parte, se analizaron 45 especies contenidas en 29 familias que habitan la Selva Misionera y han sido citadas con propiedades medicinales. El trabajo se acompaña con ilustraciones y se brinda una conclusión de los caracteres diagnósticos, tales como la presencia de epidermis cristalífera (e.g. Trixis divaricata subsp. divaricata); los tipos de estomas (e.g. ciclocíticos en Pilocarpus pennatifolius); y de tricomas (e.g. escamosos peltados en Tabebuia heptaphylla); el contorno de la vena media (e.g. convexa y aquillada en la cara adaxial en Schinus weinmanniifolia); la presencia y tipo de cristales (e.g. arena cristalina en Cordia ecalyculata, rafidios en Psychotria carthagenensis). También se provee una interpretación ecológica de las especies estudiadas cuyas hojas presentaron predominantemente una combinación de caracteres mesomórficos (e.g. hojas hipostomáticas, mesofilo dorsiventral) y xeromórficos (e.g. cutícula gruesa, esclerénquima abundante, epidermis pluriseriada, mesofilo indiferenciado en empalizada, hipodermis pluriseriada, esclereidas idioblásticas). Solamente dos especies, Ilex paraguariensis y Manihot grahamii, presentaron combinados caracteres mesomórficos (entre otros, hojas hipostomáticas y mesofilo dorsiventral) e higromórficos (epidermis glabra). Finalmente, se provee una clave para la diferenciación de 107 especies de arbustos y árboles medicinales, de la provincia biogeográfica Paranaense (Parte 1: Selvas en Galería y Parte 2: Selva Misionera) que permite identificar las especies utilizando caracteres anatómicos de la hoja.

This is the first complete, floristic analysis of the Asteraceae family from an extense, endangered, subtropical area of Argentina, covered by the Misiones Province. This study reports 88 genera, 345 species and 16 infraspecific taxa of Asteraceae from the two phytogeographic units of Misiones Province:"Selvas Mixtas" District, and "de los Campos" District. Nine species are recorded for first time, and 23 are included as probable records for this area. This paper includes keys for tribes, genera, species and infraspecific taxa, as well as a short discussion about distribution of tribes, genera and habits in relation to political departments or phytogeographic districts. Habit, status, distribution, habitat, vernacular names, uses, and vouchers are given for every taxon. Thirty two taxa are illustrated for the first time.

Este es el primer análisis florístico completo de la familia Asteraceae para un área subtropical de Argentina, extensa y en peligro de conservación, delimitada por la provincia de Misiones. Este estudio registra 88 géneros, 345 especies y 16 taxones infraespecíficos de la familia Asteraceae para las dos unidades fitogeográficas de esta provincia: los distritos de las Selvas Mixtas y el de Los Campos. Nueve especies son mencionadas por primera vez para el área y 23 son consideradas como probables. Se incluyen claves para la identificación de las tribus, los géneros, las especies y los taxones infraespecíficos, como así también una discusión breve sobre la distribución de las tribus, los géneros y los hábitos en relación a los departamentos políticos o los distritos fitogeográficos. Para cada taxón se cita el hábito, el status, la distribución, el hábitat, los nombres vernáculos, usos y un ejemplar de referencia. Se ilustran por primera vez 32 taxones.

Sixty two species of shrubs and trees belonging to 28 families inhabiting gallery forests of the Paranaense biogeographic province (Argentina) have been cited with medicinal properties. The aim of this study was to provide a tool to recognize these taxa from fragmented leaf samples. Fresh material and hydrated herbarium specimens fixed in FAA were surveyed. The main differential traits are: hypodermis presence (e.g. Myrceugenia glaucescens ); stomata and trichome types (e.g. ciclocytic stomata in Baccharis spp.; cystolith-like structure in trichomes in Aloysia gratissima var. gratissima ); midvein transection outlines (e.g. midvein convex and keel-shaped on the adaxial side in Allophylus edulis ), mesophyll of the leaf blade (e.g. indifferentiated in Poiretia tetraphylla ); presence of idioblastic sclereids (e.g. in the petiole of Rollinia emarginata ), presence and types of crystals (e.g. crystal sand in Sambucus australis ); presence of secretory structures (e.g. large secretory cavities in Malvaceae and Myrtaceae). We can conclude that the leaf features have diagnostic value to identify species. As a result, we offer a key to distinguish these 62 species and illustrations to clarify it. Ecological interpretation of leaf structures is also given.

Entre los árboles y arbustos que forman las selvas en galería de la provincia biogeográfica Paranaense (Argentina), 62 especies pertenecientes a 28 familias son citadas como medicinales. El objetivo de este trabajo es proveer elementos para el reconocimiento de estos taxones a partir de hojas fragmentadas. Para el estudio se utilizó material fresco y ejemplares de herbario recuperados y fijados en FAA. Algunos de los principales caracteres de identificación son: la presencia de una hipodermis (e.g. en Myrceugenia glaucescens ); los tipos de estomas (e.g. los estomas ciclocíticos en Baccharis spp.) y de tricomas (e.g. los tricomas cistolíticos en Aloysia gratissima var. gratissima ); el contorno de la vena media (e.g. la vena media convexa y aquillada en la cara adaxial en Allophylus edulis ); el mesofilo foliar (e.g. indiferenciado en Poiretia tetraphylla ); la presencia de esclereidas idioblásticas (e.g. en el pecíolo de Rollinia emarginata ); la presencia y los tipos de cristales (e.g. arena cristalina en Sambucus australis ) y las estructuras secretoras (e.g. la presencia de grandes cavidades secretoras en las familias Malvaceae y Myrtaceae). Se brinda una clave e ilustraciones para la determinación de las especies así como una interpretación ecológica de las diferentes estructuras halladas en las hojas.
